About Wings for Life
Wings for Life fund cutting-edge research projects and clinical trials across the globe aimed at accelerating progress towards a cure for spinal cord injury. Since Wings for Life was first founded, 110 spinal cord research projects have been funded at the world’s most well-respected institutes and a number of vital breakthroughs have been made.
The developments so far provide strong hope that treatment options are closer than they have ever been. However, intensive research work will be needed before a breakthrough in human medicine can be achieved. When you support Wings for Life, 100% of the money you donate will go to directly to spinal cord injury research as the charity’s founders generously cover all of the administrative costs.
Celebrities from across the worlds of sport, music and society filled the venue to show their support and together guests raised £212,910 for spinal cord injury research. Geri Halliwell, a passionate supporter and ambassador of the charity graced the red carpet alongside her Formula 1 fiance, Christian Horner. The couple were joined by TV Presenter Suzi Perry, Lord March, Adrian Newey, Danny MacAskill, Eddie Jordan and many others.
Entertainment on the night was in abundance, kicking off with an awe inspring bike performance from Red Bull athlete, Dany MacAaskill. A delicious menu followed in the form of three courses by the superb Angela Hartnett, founder the critically acclaimed Merchants Tavern. Finally, Eddie and the Robbers, legendary Formula One boss Eddie Jordan’s very own rock band, had the audience up on their feet to conclude the nights activities.
In addition to the fantastic entertainment taking place throughout the night was the much-anticipated Cord Club live auction, which included a number of incredible lots such as a Red Bull Air Race extravaganza, a Saracens rugby experience and the chance to sail away on a Monaco yacht. For those wishing to be a little more private about their bidding was the Cord Club silent auction which included a wine tasting weekend in Austria, an escape to the Scilly Isles and a Red Bull racing work placement.
Former Formula One driver and Wings for Life ambassador David Coulthard said: “I’m honoured to be an ambassador for Wings for Life and to be the co-host of The Cord Club alongside Susie Wolff for the third year running. The importance of finding a cure for spinal cord injury shouldn’t be overlooked, especially when an injury like this could happen to anyone of us, anytime.”
Emma Harris, Wings for Life UK said: “The amount of support we’ve had from our ambassadors and friends of Wings for Life has been absolutely phenomenal, and I’d like to thank everyone who helped to make the event such a huge success. I am thrilled that we have raised so much money to fund our groudbreaking research.”
