Darelle Wilson to enter TCR UK with a Vauxhall Astra

The latest driver to announce an entry for the 2018 TCR UK championship is 29-year old Darelle Wilson, who is making the step up to a TCR car following a number of seasons in the Milltek Sport Volkswagen Cup – one of the championships that will be supporting TCR UK in its maiden season.

Following a recent test in Germany, Wilson will be entering a Vauxhall Astra in the series, which means there will be six brands represented on the grid for the opening pair of races at Silverstone on April 1st. The car is currently being wrapped in Wilson’s familiar green livery in readiness for its debut over the Easter weekend.

After starting in karts at the age of fourteen, Darelle made the move into the VW Cup in 2005 and won his class on his first appearance in the series at Castle Combe. He then drove in a variety of championships, from Formula Ford to Alfa Romeo and Britcar, but continued to compete in the VW Cup. 2017 was his most successful season to date, in which he won one race and recorded three podium finishes on his way to finishing the series in fifth place.

The car Wilson will be driving is the Vauxhall-badged version of the Opel Astra, which has already been successful in a number of other TCR series, including victory in the 2016 TCR Europe Trophy for Pierre-Yves Corthals and race wins in TCR Germany, TCR Italy and VLN endurance championships.

Darelle Wilson said: “My aim is still to aim for the skies. I’m very much looking forward to whatever life throws at me and winning races in such a strong, competitive and highly regarded championships all over the world. The TCR UK championship will hopefully attract the sponsors I need to progress.

“Finishing on a high in the VW Cup, I can only hope to carry on and have the same success in TCR UK. The entry is based around a family team, so the budget needed is quite low, but I’m still looking for sponsors to come on board and enjoy the journey with us.”
