We also had the New Mitsubishi R5 Launched at Rallyday, The car has been designed, built and developed by Swedish motorsport engineer Tomas Weng and his team at M-Part. Representing Ralliart Sweden, the company has worked with Evos for over a decade and therefore, the inspiration behind the project was to create a rallying replacement to the Lancer.
The R5 car is based on a Mitsubishi Mirage, with the engine a reconfigured 1600cc version of the Evo X powerplant. The car uses a Sadev transmission and four-wheel-drive system. It is fitted with Öhlins suspension and AP brakes.
The project began at the start of 2013 and, although the car made its public debut as a rolling shell in Sweden last summer, Rallyday will be the first time the car has appeared outside Scandinavia.
Provided the final elements of the project can be completed, the car will be seen in action publically for the very first time on the Castrol Edge Feature Rally Stage.
The R5 project has been approved by Mitsubishi and, although full homologation is yet to be confirmed, M-Part has received a huge number of enquiries for the car. Full production is expected to commence this autumn, with the first batch of cars delivered in time for the start of the 2015 season.

In addition M-Sport will be selling off a plethora of memorabilia, including genuine ex-team gear – such as overalls and helmets, as well as car parts, giving fans a rare chance to acquire for themselves a genuine piece of rallying history.
M-Sport Managing Director, Malcolm Wilson, OBE said: “I’m really pleased that M-Sport can support Rallyday again this year – particularly through the close relationship we enjoy with our partners at Castrol. We will be supporting the event with a number of key cars from M-Sport’s competition history – both old and new – and I hope that will provide a good spectacle for the large numbers of spectators expected. Although I won’t be able to attend in person due to racing commitments, I’m sure that another fantastic event awaits all involved.”
