Max Bladon Takes Podium Win at Cadwell Park & Champion in the MINI Cooper Class 2016

With Points to be made this weekend at Cadwell Park Max was not going to take things easy, even if the weather was terrible.

With a good lead in the Championship, Max didnt really need to come 1st, to secure him his placement on the leaderboard.

While Max Qualified: 4th Race 1: 1st Race 2: 4th Going into the weekend he already knew what was needed to seal the championship and that was always in the back his mind and the teams minds.

The result of 8th or higher and the 2016 MINI CHALLENGE UK Cooper Championship would be sealed, but he didn’t want to win the Championship by just doing enough and said throughout that winning the championship with a win would be the best way of doing it!

Qualifying was very difficult due to incidents in the session which caused qualifying to have two red flags. This meant he never had a proper lap in qualifying as he never had the space to do the lap time he knew he was able to do.

So unfortunately it was his worst qualifying of the year by getting 4th on the grid for the first race. Race 1 was probably the most difficult race of the year, as the race was wet while everyone was still on slicks! Due to safety reasons the race started behind the safety car, fortunately he had a really good start and gained 2 places on the first lap of the race.

Then going into the last corner the guy in first came off the circuit, gifting him 1st position. He then held this position to the flag and happily came 2016 Cooper Champion! Race 2 was very difficult as he drew 6th position from the reverse grid draw.

This meant he started 6th on the grid for race 2 and with Cadwell Park being a very tight and narrow circuit overtaking is incredibly difficult! he still had a great start and made a position, but then got stuck behind the guy in 4th for a few laps this then let the top three drivers pull away and when he got into 4th the top three were already too far to catch.

This forced him to settle for 4th and bring the car home, but it also meant that it was the first time this year he wasn’t on the podium!
