Top of the podium once again for Charlie
Charlie Butler-Henderson returned to the top step of the MINI Challenge UK podium once again in only his second round of a brand new season. Racing at Brands Hatch during 9th-10th May, Charlie was undefeated once again in the final race to enhance his title charge.
A lack of testing around the infamous Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit prior to the weekend saw Charlie faced with an intense challenge. During a qualifying session that was cut short, just four laps gave Charlie the chance to relearn the circuit, to secure a fifth place start for race one.
A brief slip to seventh place amongst a highly competitive grid saw Charlie wrestle his way back to a sixth place result in the initial outing.
On a grid formed by race one’s fastest laps, Charlie secured grid slot number seven for race two. As the field thundered towards Paddock Hill Bend, Charlie held onto a view of the front from seventh place.
As the race unravelled, he began to pick up places as others fell by the wayside. A number of incidents ahead of him saw Charlie fired into fourth place for another strong finish, and secured Fastest lap
A reversal of the grid for the third and final race saw Charlie land in second place. A perfect launch as the lights dispersed immediately handed him control, as he led the field towards Paddock Hill Bend. Despite being hounded by David Grady, his nearest pursuer, for the duration, Charlie managed a one second gap lap after lap, to bank another race victory. Also another fastest lap!
Charlie’s next race will take place at the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, in Northamptonshire, on 13th – 14th June.
“We had a slow start to the weekend, but I am absolutely delighted with our results, particularly another race win in the final race,” said Charlie.
“We have had a fantastic start to our season from the off, much better than anticipated. But we still have a long way to go. I would like to say a big thank you to the sponsors we have on board at the moment, but we are still desperately seeking more.
At the moment we are working race by race, but it would be fantastic to secure the rest of the season and take our chance to battle for the championship title,” he added.
